My coffee journey started right after college. I moved to Columbus and was fortunate enough to be hired at a coffee shop. I wasn’t even a coffee drinker at that point. This was my first experience with espresso-based drinks, and I was in love. There were many jobs to follow working in office/administrative roles, but I kept coming back to the dream of opening my own coffee shop. That dream finally came true in October of 2015!

My go-to coffee beverage was, and still is, a cappuccino. I like strong coffee, and the ratio of milk to espresso in this drink is the perfect balance. An added bonus: there is something about steaming milk that is so relaxing! My latte art (a design created on the surface of steamed milk when pouring it into espresso) is definitely a work in progress, but the effort seems to be appreciated!

In fall of 2015, I had the happy coincidence of looking for an opportunity to grow my breakfast and dessert catering business, The Flaky Baker, and finding Christie opening Highline Coffee Co. For several years I had worked at Caribou Coffee in Cleveland. I started as a barista, working my way up to store manager and area trainer. Highline Coffee has been a great reminder of how much fun it is to be a barista, especially with such great products and in such a carefully conceived space.

To me, there’s no better feeling than watching a smile come over the face of a customer who stumbles in all bleary-eyed, smells the delicious coffee brewing and realizes that their day will soon be a lot better.

My favorite drink is a vanilla latte. Just a little bit sweet, I think it’s the perfect balance of beautiful espresso and creamy milk. Put a Double Dark Chocolate Brownie with it, and it’s a match made in heaven!
